From Blue Oyster Cult to Guided By Voices with some Nick Cave thrown in, this is the new release from Portland-by-way-of-Nashville indie rockers Gay Ghost. There are more than a few gems on this first proper release from wicked prolific demi-genius Joe Mormann. The first demo he sent to Bladen County had 55 songs on it, and none of them were bad. Bladen County leader Matt Brown convinced Joe and drummer Jeff Schmell to move to Portland so he could help them get their young, confused career pointed in the right direction, and the band is planning four album releases for 2011! Bassist/vocalist Kristen McKenzie joined the band late into the recording process, so only one track on the record features her bass and backup vocals. The album has a raw, but tight power trio sound with poppy, reverberated vocals.
